After losing out on Lewis Holtby, Arsenal are keen to repay the favor to bitter rivals Tottenham as the Daily Star understands that the Gunners could beat Spurs to the signature of German youngster Sebastian Rode.
22-year old midfielder Rode started his professional career in 2008 at Kickers Offenbach, a club he joined as a youth player. He joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2010 and after helping them gain promotion to the Bundesliga last season, the talented youngster has been in sparkling form this campaign as Frankfurt fight for European places.
Tottenham reportedly approached the German side last summer for a possible move for the player but could not finalise a deal. Since then, Arsenal and German giants Bayern Munich have added their names to the list of clubs chasing the midfielder.
The Gunners have had a shortage of talent in midfield with jack Wilshere carrying the mantle alongside Mikel Arteta while Tomas Rosicky is past his prime. Rode could turn out to be the next big-thing to develop under Arsene Wenger.
Talking about the interest from top clubs across Europe, Rode said, “The interest is known to me. I’ll keep my feet on the ground and not start dreaming. Eintracht Frankfurt and I have agreed to postpone the talks so I can concentrate on my football.”
