Arsenal chairman dismisses Tottenham as a serious rival to the gunners

There’s no love lost between Arsenal and Tottenham but now it seems the rivalry has buckled tighter. Arsenal chairman, Peter Hill-Wood has exposed his claws and dismissed the idea that Tottenham will pose any threat for his club in the up and coming season.

Peter Hill-Wood has spoken out stating, ‘ I do not see Spurs posing a problem for us this season.’ This comes after Spurs endured a frustrating start to the season, having not won a game so far. The statement directed towards the club and Villas-Boas will not go unnoticed though, as Spurs will look to prove a point to their North London neighbors.

After Arsenal’s mediocre spending spree during the transfer period, many supporters of the club became angered by the lack of big money buys this season. Peter Hill-Wood admitted that Arsenal do not have the power of other major European clubs but is still confident of winning silverware this season. “Arsene has money to spend but there’s a limit,’ the chairman said. ” We can’t spend £50 million on one player.”

Arsenal fans won’t be too happy with the statement made by the chairman, given that the club hasn’t even expressed interest in players in the £30 million mark. None the less, the Arsenal chairman, feels that with Tottenham’s increased stadium problems that the club won’t be able to compete with Arsenal this season. “Their new manager may be a great success but they have to find a stadium. That’s going to be very difficult. Finding a site and financing it is a major problem which we know about.’

With Spurs having competed toe to toe with Arsenal in the transfer market, a fresh faced Tottenham squad will be sure to prove the Arsenal chairman wrong.

Erm, where has this guy been for the last few years?

We don’t need to “find” a stadium, we’re building a new one. Right now.

We don’t need to “find a site”, we have one, it’s called NDP (Northumberland Development Project). Oh, and we’re staying in the same area…*ahem*

what an aroogant tw*t. Doesnt he know we have a site and planning permission? If he really cared about arsenal he would stop making dividend payments to the board every year. After what happened last season…to come out and say this after losing song and van persie is incredibly arrogant and disrespectful

IF THE QUOTE IS CORRECT THEN MR H-W SHOULD GET HIS FACTS RIGHT. SPURS HAVE THERE PLOT THEY HAVE THE FINANCING FOR THE STADIUM AND I CANT SEE HOW THAT WOULD AFFECT THEIR PLAY ON THE FIELD ANYWAY – ITS GOING TO BE A TOUGH SEASON GETTING U=INTO THE TOP 4 AS THERE ARE A PROSPECTIVE 6/7 TEAMS THAT COULD DO SO – ARSENAL ARN’T GUARANTEED A PLACE ANYWAY!!!

Am I missing something? Are Spurs again looking at a different site for the new stadium? As far as I am aware it’s all going ahead as planned but maybe the Gooner chair knows something Spurs don’t! Not a bad attempt to deflect criticism away from his door but come on! What a numpty!!!

Arsenal fan here, I don’t think spurs will be as close this year because they are starting new under avb but in a year or two to come they could be back on our heels. Don’t like giving credit to Spuds but they did well in the transfer window. As always arsenal under rated again will prove many wrong

Is this guy in dis planet? So the trophy Arsenal can boast of every year is beating Tottenham. Why cant he say the same of the Manchester clubs or Chelsea?
The guy should be in the circus.

  • iyke

spurs is not in same class with Arsenal…..no body argued other wise so why did hill wood bring this up?new stadium, sight or even new name cant bring them close to arsenal…even if arsenal goes 20years of trophy drought…..

  • Mark A bencini

“lack of big money buys”?? Hallo!
Cazorla £17m, Podolski £11m, Giroud £10m. What planet is this writer on?
I agree with PHW. Spurs will not threaten top 4 this year and, if poor results continue, AVB will get his marching orders. Stupid decision by Levy. As an Arsenal fan I was happy when he fired Harry.
