Fulham forward Clint Dempsey has sent rumour mills abuzz by stating that he is not eager to sign a contract extension with the club just yet. The player was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying, “We’ll just have to see what happens. I’m talking with the club, but we’ll just have to see what happens in the summer.I just want to wait until the season has finished before I talk about anything.”
The American will enter the last year of his contract in the summer and should he refuse to sign an extension, then the Cottagers might be forced to sell him. Premier League giants Arsenal have long been linked with a move and a cut price deal for Dempsey may be on the cards in the summer.
Fulham for their part would loathe to lose a player of Dempsey’s quality. Apart from his versatility, the 29-year old is a proven goalscorer and has found the back of the net 21 times this season. Despite his age, he could prove to be a valuable asset for Arsene Wenger’s side for the short term, although there is no indication so far from the Emirates about a possible offer.
