The Gunners have been on the goalkeeper hunt for quite some time now, trying to obtain the signing of veteran Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar, but have not been successful thus far. It is now being reported by the Metro that they have changed their attention towards Newcastle keeper Tim Krul.
Arsenal were backed heavily to sign the Brazil international keeper after QPR, who were relegated last season, were reported to be willing to let him go for a mere million pounds. However, Cesar chose to go on vacation keeping the Gunners on hold till his return. This has evidently angered the north Londoners as they go looking for another keeper.
Dutch star, Krul, has been impressive for Newcastle over the past few years and has only recently signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2017. He could hence prove pretty costly for Arsenal. The Gunners are said to be willing to table a bid of £6 million for the 25 year old.
Arsene Wenger, with this signing, will be looking to offer more competition to the Polish pair of Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski already present in his side. The sale of Vito Mannone to Sunderland has cleared a spot on Arsenal’s goalkeeping roster, and Wenger is looking to fill that with Krul.
