Having been frustrated in their attempts to land Luis Suarez, London giants Arsenal are now looking at other options. While Wayne Rooney too remains a target, Chelsea are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature, which has persuaded Arsenal to look at a third option in the form of Swansea hitman Michu.
According to the Daily Mirror, Swansea recently tied the player down with a new contract and are now demanding a whopping £25m for him. The Swans would loathe to lose Michu at this stage of the season and are perhaps hoping that the transfer fee would be enough to dissuade the Gunners. At 27-years of age, despite his heroics of last season, the Gunners may find it hard to match his valuation, even more so because he is not the big name signing that the fans were hoping for.
The aforementioned daily also reports that the Gunners haven’t given up on Suarez just yet and will go back in with another bid for the Liverpool player, although given the Reds’ hard stance over the player, one finds it hard to see the Gunners signing him now.
Arsenal, therefore, might just come in for Michu, although with little time to haggle, one wonders whether they will be able to get him for anything less than what the Swans are demanding.
