It turned out to be a great end to a bad week for Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas at the weekend, as his side picked up a 2-1 victory over newly promoted Southampton.
After the disappointing League result against Chelsea last weekend and the draw against Maribor in the Europa League on Thursday, the boss needed his team to bounce back against the Saints, and he can thank Gareth Bale after the winger put in a top class performance against his old club.
The star has not played in recent weeks due to the arrival of his first baby.
But he came back with a bang and showed just how important he is to the Spurs team. He tore the Saints defence apart in the first half and then helped out the back-line in the second half as the team were under a lot of pressure from the home side.
The win was a lot harder than it should have been, and it seemed that Bale was the difference between the two clubs.
With his pace, power, strength and un-doubted ability down that left-wing, he is so important to the way the team line-up, that without him they don’t look the same force and are less of a threat.
And with all the rumours about top clubs making a bid for him in the near future, it is imperative that AVB keeps his most prized possession at the club for as long as possible, because he is an important piece of the puzzle in the Spurs boss quest for success.
