Brendan Rodgers invited to Spain to discuss ideas and philosophies

Impressed by Brendan Rodgers’ footballing philosophy, record-breaking Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has invited the Liverpool manager to the Iberian nation to discuss ideas and philosophies.

Del Bosque claimed a historic treble of Champions League, World Cup and European Championship triumphs earlier in the summer when he guided Spain to Euro 2012 glory in Poland and Ukraine.

The 61-year old manager rates Rodgers very highly as well, and impressed by Swansea’s style of play in the previous season, invited the 39-year old Northern Irishman to meet with him.

Rodgers, who speaks fluent Spanish, was supposed to drop by at La Roja’s pre Euro 2012 training camp, but later was forced to cancel due to a switch to Liverpool.

However, with the championships now over, Del Bosque has invited Rodgers to have a tete-a-tete with him in Spain to discuss football.

A source close to Rodgers suggested that the new Liverpool manager was keen on sharing some time with Del Bosque, saying: “It is obviously a difficult time to find a date at the moment, but Brendan has an open invitation to meet Del Bosque and watch Spain train.

“I’m sure he will take up the offer at some point because Brendan loves to talk to people about the game, particularly very successful people.”

Rodgers however is keen on sealing Fulham playmaker Clint Dempsey’s capture before this meeting, with the £10 million-rated American firmly on the Liverpool boss’ radar.
