Newcastle are struggling to keep hold of their star midfielder Chieck Tiote with Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal aiming to pry away the Ivorian this summer, reported the Express.
Newcastle have attempted to ward off suitors by placing a £20 million price on his head, but after their convincing 2-1 victory on the opening day of this season, the interested clubs might be prompted to meet the large amount.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew said, “We are on our guard in case some really big bid comes in and we need to react because if someone goes out, another player will come in. But success for me in this transfer window would be losing none of our stars.”
City have signed only Jack Rodwell this summer, leaving them with surplus funds at hand whereas Arsenal are eyeing a replacement for Alex Song who has joined Barcelona while Chelsea are keen on a better holding midfielder than John Obi Mikel. The reasons may be different but the clubs are keen on landing Tiote and with the transfer deadline looming closer, Newcastle will have to fight a fierce battle if they wish to retain the midfield star this summer.
