Prior to his injury, Real Madrid were reportedly eager to tie veteran midfielder Xabi Alonso to a new deal. However, the long term injury seems to have derailed contract talks and the player may now be preparing to leave the Santiago Bernabeu when his contract expires at the end of the season.
According to reports in Tuttosport, reigning Italian champions Juventus may look to exploit the situation by offering a contract to Alonso to bring him in before the start of the next season. With 35 year old superstar Andrea Pirlo’s contract also coming to an end, the Old Lady of Turin reportedly see Alonso as an ideal replacement.
The prospect of finishing his career at a club like Juventus will undoubtedly appeal to Alonso. The Serie A is also famous as a league where players can prolong their careers and that too will be playing on Alonso’s mind.
However, a number of other clubs including Chelsea and former club Liverpool are also believed to be keen on the Spaniard and that could change the equation drastically.
