Chelsea are set to make Atletico Madrid and Thibaut Courtois both very happy. The Blues have reportedly consented to the idea of sending the 21 year old Belgian out on loan for a third year to the Vicente Calderon as he looks to make his bow in the UEFA Champions League this season.
Courtois has had a phenomenal couple of years at Atletico, winning the Europa League crown and the Copa del Rey title in successive years, and was desperately keen not to return to Chelsea next season only to get a place on the bench. The fact that this is a world cup year, and a lack of game time could cost him a genuine shot at challenging Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet for the no.1 national jersey would have been of paramount importance to the young Belgian.
Chelsea have reportedly conceded to the youngster’s request and have asked Atletico to pay a paltry million pounds to retain the Courtois’ services.
The Blues though will have some thinking to do as both their backup keepers Hilario and Ross Turnbull are out of contract this summer.
