Despite his lack of form this season, Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez is likely to be a hot property in the transfer market this summer as Barcelona look to get the high wage earner off their books with better prospects coming through the youth ranks at the club.
Sanchez moved to the Camp Nou from Udinese for a fee believed to be in the region of £24 million, and Barca are keen to recover their entire investment at the very least.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus were all believed to be in the race for the player’s signature, but the Daily Express reports today that Chelsea too have thrown their hat in the ring and believe that Sanchez would be a valuable addition to their squad.
The interest from the Blues is a tad surprising considering they have Andre Schurrle expected to join the club in the summer, and with the team already blessed with so many wingers, it remains to be seen where Sanchez would be accommodated.
While no doubt talented, it remains to be seen if Sanchez is capable of leading the line on his own, having traditionally been used in a wide position, and there is little chance that Chelsea see the Chilean as an alternative to Fernando Torres.
