Chelsea have enjoyed a relatively stress-free summer as they have quietly added quality to their squad in the wake of their Champions League triumph last season. But Ashley Cole has sowed the first seeds of discontent as Soccernet reveal that the left-back could leave for free next year. Cole only has a year left in his current deal and with negotiations not set to begin anytime soon, the player is reportedly prepared to see out the remaining year of his contract.
There would be no shortage of suitors for Cole though as he is still considered as one of the best full-backs in the world, something he proved in abundance during the latter stages of the Champions League last season. Everyone from Barcelona to Real Madrid have been linked with the player in the past and would definitely swoop in should he become available.
The 31 year old has been a cornerstone at the club in recent years and will be a huge loss if he does decide to leave. The changing of the guard at Chelsea has been an arduous process to say the least but with Cole now prepared to leave and Frank Lampard linked with a move to LA Galaxy, the old guard might finally be moving out.
