Chelsea ready to test the resolve of Juventus with £17 Million offer
Jose Mourinho is set to be unveiled as the next Chelsea boss within a week or two and the Portuguese manager could weigh up a summer bid for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio. Mourinho has been attracted to the Scudetto winning Italian and could test Juve’s resolve with a £17 million offer.
27 year-old Marchisio has been at hometown club Juventus, right from the start, progressing upwards from the youth setup. The midfielder has been a vital part of the Juve side that fought its way up from Serie B following relegation in 2006, to claiming the Serie A title in the last two seasons.
Mourinho will have a large transfer budget when he begins a second spell at Stamford Bridge and the manager is keen on bringing Sami Khedira and Fabio Coentrao to the West London club. Serie A winner Marchisio is also hot on his wishlist and the Daily Express reports that the manager could convince Roman Abramovich to spend £17 million for the Italy international.
Marchisio has previously been a target for Blues’ rivals Manchester United but it remains to be seen if the midfielder would leave Turin at the end of a successful campaign. Antonio Conte is also keen on holding on to his top stars as he seeks to maintain Juve’s dominance in Italy next season.
