Chelsea’s quest to land their targets this season has been a bust. After former Barca manager Pep Guardiola opted to join Bayern Munich, the Blues could be in line to miss out on striker Radamel Falcao. According to the Metro, Falcao would prefer to stay on at Atletico Madrid rather than move to Chelsea or Real Madrid.
Falcao has been one of the hottest properties in Europe with several clubs chasing the Colombian striker. He was the top scorer in the Europa League last season and scored a first half hat-trick to condemn Chelsea to a humiliating loss in the UEFA Super Cup earlier this season.
The Blues have been tipped to beat Real Madrid to the player’s signature with Thibaut Courtois or Fernando Torres moving the other way. However, Falcao expressed his desire to see out his contract at Atletico dousing any hopes Chelsea or Real have of signing the player.
Falcao said, “I have a contract with Atletico for three more years, therefore, that’s the best option. I have come to one of the biggest clubs in Spain, in a very important league that is more well-known on the world stage than any of my previous clubs. It has allowed me to grow as a footballer, to become known in other parts of the world. It has been a very positive step.”
Failure to land Falcao will force Chelsea to look at other options to bolster their attack as Fernando Torres continues his struggles in front of goal while Demba Ba is not the high-profile striker the club demands.
