Chelsea star to be a Red Devil next season?

Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in securing the services of England and Chelsea left back Ashley Cole in the next season, reports the Daily Mail.

Although he has been in stellar touch for Chelsea, the 31 year old left back has fallen prey to the contract policy at Chelsea which allows only a one year contract extension to players above 30 years of age. As Cole looks for a longer term contract which has led to an impasse over his contract renewal with Chelsea, it is but natural that other clubs step up to usurp this opportunity.

Sir Alex has always been respectful of Cole’s playing abilities and had also recognized the fact that in Chelsea versus United clashes, Cole had always successfully nullified the threat of former Red Devil star Cristiano Ronaldo. A possible thorn in Fergie’s approach could have been the Twitter feud between Rio Ferdinand and Cole, where Ferdinand had termed the England international as ‘choc ice’. But both Cole and Ferdinand have patched up relations since then and given that the former Arsenal player is also close to Wayne Rooney, there are good chances that this becomes more than a stray gossip. However, the Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been talking up his admiration for Cole and it seems Man United are not alone in this one!
