Chelsea turn their attention to experienced Brazilian international

With Jose Bosingwa leaving Chelsea over the summer, the Blues have been in the hunt for a new right-back, and after seeing their initial approaches for Gregory Van der Wiel and Cesar Azpilicueta fail in recent weeks, have turned their attention to Inter Milan and Brazil star Maicon.

Maicon has for many years been on Chelsea’s radar, with Roman Abramovich said to be a ardent admirer of the Brazilian. Inter however have been unwilling to let go of the fullback, who was awarded the UEFA Club Defender of the Year in 2009-10, when the Nerazzurri claimed the Champions League title under Jose Mourinho.

However, with Mourinho gone and Inter falling to a disappointing sixth in Serie A last term, Maicon is said to be looking for one last challenge before hanging up his boots.

Reigning European champions Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer, already adding Marko Marin and Eden Hazard to their squad in the last month.

They however will be challenged for Maicon’s signature by Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to bring in a number of big names this off-season. Maicon’s agent Roberto Calenda claimed earlier in the year that Manchester United and Real Madrid were also interested in the 30-year old.
