Galatasaray’s incredible run in the Champions League this season can be attributed to one man, and his name is not Didier Drogba or Wesley Sneijder. Instead it was 27 year old Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz who carried his side all season by scoring an incredible 32 goals in all competitions.
The Turkish international has seen his stock rise incredibly over the course of this season and is now valued at a princely £20 million. Yilmaz is well travelled on the Turkish local circuit having previously played for Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor, with limited effect. Yilmaz never really excelled at any of those clubs before finding form at Galatasaray this season, but such is his precocious talent that fellow striker Drogba has quickly suggested to Jose Mourinho that Yilmaz should be signed for Chelsea.
Yilmaz though inked a 4 year deal with Galatasaray this season and may not be keen on a big money move just yet, having finally found his feet. The striker said, ‘I’m really happy here. I have a long-term contract here. If an offer is put on the table then it’s the club’s decision which will matter, not mine.’
