Everton have emerged as favourites to bag Manchester City man Adam Johnson for a season-long loan deal ahead of Merseyside rivals Liverpool. The Toffees are trying to hijack the want-away winger from the clutches of their arch-rivals despite making a late entry.
And Manager David Moyes is hoping that Jack Rodwell’s move to the English Champions would help them in their bid to grab Johnson for the upcoming season. The winger wants to leave the Etihad in order to play more games as he was continually subjected to the bench last term.
And both Mancini and the player believe that it would be in their best interest if the Englishman is able to get some games under his belt and regain his form. Johnson’s declining performances also saw him being left out of the English squad for the European championships and a loan deal might just do the trick for the 25 year old who is struggling to find a place in a star studded starting lineup.
Johnson is thought to be impressed with Moyes making the journey to the Etihad to discuss the matter personally with Roberto Mancini. Also, one feels that Liverpool would have not been too keen on a loan deal as the Reds would have had to see their investment of a year go to waste unless the Manchester club were willing to permanently release the player.
