Arsenal’s shirt deal with Emirates means the coffers in Ashburton Grove are in great shape ahead of the January transfer window. Manager Arsene Wenger has reiterated the importance of finding quality players in the market who could add something to the squad instead of buying to just match the numbers. Here are five players who might meet Wenger’s criteria of being quality but might need him to pay heavy dosh for their services.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar: Arsenal have been linked with the Dutch striker for the past month and the striker is everything Arsenal need at the moment. Clinical, good movement and great understanding means he could fit the bill at Arsenal perfectly. All this for just £6m as his contract runs out in the summer!
Edison Cavani: The Uruguayan is one of the deadliest strikers in Europe and the Frenchman is a known to be an admirer of the Napoli forward. With a number of clubs looking at Cavani his price might be in the upper 30’s. But that is what “top quality” is worth in the transfer market.
Victor Wanyama: Wanyama has been linked to a host of clubs including Manchester United in recent weeks and has been scouted by Arsenal too. The defensive midfielder has an undesirable engine and best known for his marking abilities. His passing may need improving but under the tutelage of Wenger, he is bound to get into that groove in no time.
Marouane Fellaini: The Everton midfielder Fellaini has arguably been the best midfielder in the league this season. The dominant presence of the Belgian is something Arsenal don’t have in their ranks and could tempt the Toffees into fighting for Fellaini’s signature after the player made it clear he would be moving. The price might just be too much for Arsene’s liking.
Wilfried Zaha: Young Crystal Palace winger Zaha has been a revelation in the past two seasons and his pace and directness seems to be an ideal fit for Arsenal who might lose out on Theo Walcott in the summer.
