Improvement in defence is the key for Arsenal

Arsenal will meet Stoke City in their next Premier League encounter at the Emirates and manager Arsene Wenger has urged his team to ‘focus’ on the job at hand.

The Gunners have conceded 29 goals this season and their defensive weaknesses has been exploited by almost all the good sides in the league.

Against Liverpool in their last league match, the home side went two goals down due to some sloppy defending. Germany international Per Mertesacker understands what to expect from Stoke on Saturday and echoes the same concern raised by his manager.

Consistency is the only demon that has impeded Arsenal from getting into top four so far. While Mertesacker admits his side has a plan to counter Stoke’s physical threats, it is equally important that they must focus on exerting their style of play as well.

Tony Pulis’ side, sitting 10th in the league have a tremendous record at home this season, their form away from home has been pretty ordinary. They have won just one in their 12 away games this season and have conceded 16 goals in the process.

Arsenal have signed a new left back, Nacho Monreal from Malaga on the transfer deadline day and he will be expected to bolster the defensive unit in absence of Kieran Gibbs.

  • I think mr.wenger should pause 4 a while to realize how arsenal team as a whole is sinking to the deep blue sea like a ship with a perforated hole that cause ultimate perish in the water. Specially the left and right flank players are both far short behind the standard to do their job. Beside, the defence has been very ridiculous to clear balls as vivdly shown in Last game vs Liverpool. So wenger should figure out the problems on time B 4 too late.

  • Thats what we all have been saying for a long time, hope our manager gets the message one day.
