Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun thinks Fernando Torres will prove his worth in the near future. Torres has scored only one goal in 13 matches after Thursday night’s Europa League last-32 first-leg 1-0 win at Sparta Prague, and fans have lost faith in the £50m striker.
Benayoun had played with El Nino during their Liverpool days and feels he is still one of the best strikers in the world. At Liverpool, Torres made his name as one of the best finishers in entire Europe, but has failed to recapture that same form at Chelsea.
Many say that formation at Chelsea played a major part for this. At Liverpool, he was the talisman and the team under Rafael Benitez was a brilliant counter attacking team. That was not the case at Chelsea when he joined under Carlo Ancelotti. Chelsea don’t usually play at a high tempo and very rarely takes the best advantage of Torres’ pace.
There are other opinions like during peak forms, his career was blighted with injuries because he game was centered around pace, as a result of which, he is struggling now.
Whatever may be the reason, the question that asks begging is will he ever get back to his old best? It cannot happen that one fine morning he turns out to a bad player from being a world class performer. Surely the problem lies elsewhere.
