26 year old Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has declared that he is in the same class as Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba, after declaring his statistics from his first season with the Gunners match up with the best in the world.
Giroud, who was brought to Arsenal from French champions Montpellier, declared that he was also being pursued by Paris St. Germain and Bayern Munich. He added that PSG continue to be interested in him, and have kept up relations with his agent, but he is happy at Arsenal and hopes to forge his career here.
Giroud, was earlier brought in to supplement Arsenal’s attack, but the shock departure of club skipper Robin van Persie to Manchester United has earned him the premature role of lead striker. Giroud has done alright in his first season, scoring 17 goals and contributing 11 assists, but obviously pales in comparison with the 30 goals that Robin van Persie scored in his last year at Arsenal.
Giroud though remained optimistic about his performance at Arsenal, and said, “I replaced Van Persie and when you arrive at a big club like that, they are very demanding towards you. The criticism has not always been deserved, but they push you on. Seventeen goals and 11 assists – that is better than Henry and Drogba in their first seasons. This is the quality I have. I have got better with this team and this staff – it is another level. And I want to continue to improve.”
