Arsenal can’t let go of Johan Djourou. AS Roma are reportedly lining up an offer for the central defender in January and I think Arsenal should move in to block it from ever happening. Djourou is an excellent and I mean excellent fourth choice central defender. People often mistake him as a bad player because he’s not an automatic pick, but if you consider who plays ahead of him, Thomas Vermaelen, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny then you can see why he’s constantly on the bench for the Gunners’.
The Swiss defender caught a bad break when he was thrown in the flank position along the back four and suffered badly there with some ill fated performances, but when he was playing in his usual role, he was stellar! There’s no doubt that Arsenal’s defense has improved this season and with the Gunner’s challenging on all fronts, the season may dictate a rotation of some kind which goes beyond just Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. That’s where Johan Djourou comes in. As a central defender he’s the perfect replacement. On the flanks he’s not as effective but is still versatile enough to be deployed there if needed.
The Swiss defender has been at the club since his youth football days and if he has a future with Arsenal then it will always be as a fourth choice unless injury strikes. It’s unfortunate that that’s the case for Djourou but that’s just the way it is. If the player wishes to leave then Arsene Wenger needs to look at a player that could do what Johan Djourou does. I see versatility as the forward way in football and should Arsenal decide to sell Johan Djourou, they then need to find a suitable replacement. Not just someone who can play centrally.

The guy’s shit………..plain shit, Zero game reading, He’s not as physical as his structure suggests, however his as sloppy as his look suggests, He commands no authority in his positioning, I say he would still look bad evn when played alongside Puyol or Pique in Barcelona…………..He needs life in Italy, Perhaps it would suite him there
I concur. Djourou was bad but he has a role at Arsenal. We should sell him if we have too but try keep him for the benefit of the entire team!
Who will buy this overweight waster and pay him 60 grand a week? Chamakh, Squillaci, Denilson, Bendtner, Park, all overpaid, so sitting out their contracts or out on loan. No wonder the wage bill is so high.
What are you on about?! He was terrible in every position. A liability if ive ever seen one. If anyone is crazy enough to actually pay us to take him we need to sell right away!

I disagree. Miquel can cover for the 4th CB spot. Djourou’s weekly wages of 60K and a potential transfer fee of 5m mean that he is certainly not indispensable.
