Jose Mourinho is coming to Chelsea and is also bringing retired Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi as his deputy at Stamford Bridge. At least that is what the Express claimed as the rumours linking the Real Madrid manager to the Chelsea hotseat continue to gather steam.
Reports in the English media last week claimed that the Portuguese tactician is set for an emotional return to the West London club and also plans to bring along fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo. Now the manager is said to be plotting a reunion with former Italy international Materazzi, who he managed during his two year stint at Inter Milan and he wants the defender to take up an assistant manager’s position at Chelsea.
Materazzi has previous experience of playing in the Premier League, spending the 1998/99 season at Everton. The player has close ties with Mourinho and showed great sorrow at the manager’s departure from Inter, hanging up his boots in the following season.
Meanwhile, Mourinho looks set for a departure from Real Madrid after enduring a tough season, with a host of players falling out with the manager. Roman Abramovich is understood to have close relations with the former Blues boss and the chances of the Portuguese getting a recall to West London look very high this summer.
