Liverpool fans waiting anxiously to see 24 year old Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld join their ranks have been asked to be patient by the player’s agent, who believes there is plenty of time still left in the summer transfer window for his man to seal a move away from Ajax.
Alderweireld’s agent Soren Lerby was quoted today in Voetbal Primeur, taking the example of another Belgian defender who left Ajax last summer, Jan Vertonghen, stating that sometimes it takes a while for a deal to go through. Lerby said, “It is still early. Last year Jan Vertonghen also went away only in mid-August.”
Liverpool are still looking to bolster their defence and though they have signed Kolo Toure on a free transfer this summer, Brendan Rodgers knows that the former Arsenal and Manchester City man is only a short term solution at 32.
With rumours floating around about Daniel Agger’s possible departure to Barcelona, Liverpool may need to move sooner than they would like, and need just €8 million to secure the signature of the young Belgian center back.
