Liverpool hoping they will do better than Arsenal in race to land Spanish legend
Arsenal may have lost interest in Barcelona forward David Villa after their advances were spurned in the January transfer window, but Liverpool are hopeful that they can succeed where Arsenal failed, and are able to secure the signing of the 31 year old Spanish striker.
Villa is hardly the type of player that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been shopping around for in his attempt to rebuild Liverpool, but the rookie boss knows that he needs to mix youth with experience, and there are few better finishers in the world of football than Spain’s record goal scorer.
Villa has grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of opportunities that have come his way at Barcelona, especially since his return from injury, and the club too are considering looking at alternatives after their recent humiliating exit at the hands of Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool on the other hand need to prepare for the possible exit of Luis Suarez this summer, and even should the Uruguayan stay, the Reds will need someone to lead the line in his absence early in the season as a result of his extended ban, making Villa an attractive alternative.
