Liverpool linked with highly rated South American ace

Peru international Juan Manuel Vargas’ agent has claimed that a move to Liverpool could be an option for his client this summer, amid rising speculations of the winger’s impending move away from Fiorentina.

28-year old Vargas, who signed for Fiorentina in 2008 for a fee of around £10 million, has been rumoured to be interested in a bigger challenge than the one currently at the Viola, who finished in a disappointing 13th place in the previous Serie A season. With only one year left on his contract and the player unwilling to agree on new terms, a move away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi is quite a strong possibility, with Fiorentina looking to make some money off the versatile midfielder.

Vargas, who can play either at full-back or on the wing, is reportedly being tracked by Liverpool and Malaga, and is still undecided on where his future lies.

“There is the possibility that he (Vargas) will leave Fiorentina,” Vargas’ agent, Jorge Cyterszpiler, told tuttomercatoweb.com. “However, at this time it’s just a rumour and there is nothing official.

“He didn’t have the best of seasons and he needs to make up for it next season. Liverpool is an option, but there is also Malaga, which has the attraction of playing in next season’s Champions League.”

When asked if Vargas has a specific preference for any of the big European leagues, Cyterszpiler said that the Peruvian would not mind playing either in England, Spain or Italy.
