Though the sun is starting to shine brightly on Anfield after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Stoke, Brendan Rodgers is not the type of person to fall prey to false optimism. The Irishman has almost persuaded Suarez to stay on in his project and Anzhi’s Willian might be headed to Merseyside too. However, Rodgers is not putting all his eggs in only those two baskets and is currently entertaining the possibility of signing Internacional’s Leandro Damiao.
Liverpool fans are still doubtful of Suarez’s loyalty at present and given how it has wavered in the past, they are right to be worried, especially given the fact that Arsenal are said to preparing a final bid of £50 million for the troubled Uruguayan. Also there are whisperings that Liverpool’s direct rivals Tottenham and Manchester United may be a plotting an old fashioned hijack on the Anfield club’s Willian move.
And thus Rodgers, who probably rues missing out on Henrikh Mkthiriyan and Diego Costa, refuses to be dragged into a similar position with Willian and is keeping his options as open as possible.
One of those options is Brazilian striker Damiao who has been on the verge of a Tottenham move for almost forever. The striker still wants a move to Europe, despite Spurs’ various failures to land him, and should the concerned parties finally agree on a move, Liverpool are set to swoop for the youngster.
