Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to add a quality striker to his side and is reportedly interested in adding West Bromwich forward Shane Long in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old striker has put in some excellent performances in this season so far that has caught the attention of some of the top clubs in UK, including Liverpool.
The Reds are currently short of striking options, as Luis Suarez remains the only fit and recognized striker in the side, after the absence of new signing Fabio Borini through injury.
West Bromwich Albion are determined to keep hold of the player, who they value at £13m, almost double the fee they paid for his signature from Reading.
Manager Steve Clarke made it clear last month that the club won’t listen to any offers, whatever temptations are dangled at them. The Baggies are fifth in the table and are punching above their weights this season. Quite naturally, they have lofty ambitions of their own and in achieving their target, they must retain the services of their star striker.
Rodgers is well aware of Long’s talent, as he trained him during his short stay at Reading and will be hoping to lure him at Anfield to partner Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.
