Liverpool reportedly interested in Celtic hit man

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Gary Hooper from Celtic during the Winter transfer window.

Gary Hooper has been in tremendous form for the past couple of seasons for Celtic. Hooper has scored 50 goals in 80 appearances (in all competitions) in the past two seasons. This season he has already scored seven goals in nine appearances (in all competitions). Celtic manager Neil Lennon has also stated that Hooper deserves a England call-up for his consistency. Recently contract talks between Celtic and Hooper has broken down and this has lead to fresh speculations about his future.

Liverpool are desperately short in numbers upfront after Fabio Borini picked up an injury during his international duty. Luis Suarez is the only recognized striker left in the squad. Manager Brendan Rodgers is sure to bring in reinforcement during the winter transfer window and it seems that they are highly interested in signing the 24-year-old striker from Celtic. Earlier, newly promoted side Southampton has shown interest in Hooper along with QPR and Wolves, but all bids regarding the striker were rejected.

The only problem Liverpool will have in convincing Hooper is that Celtic are currently playing in the Champions League, something which the English side cannot offer this season. Hooper has earlier stated his desire to play in Europe’s premier club competition and it seems unlikely he would want to leave Celtic in the current season.

Players with these kind of records are the type we need in our (lfc). Liverpool fc have to do whatever it takes to convince and bring in cos if we do, then top four is still within our reach no matter how poor we may hav started. Great Kopites, YNWA

I think he would do well at Liverpool and score goals in the Premiership, would be a good acquisition. My guess is that if Celtic makes it out of the Champions’ League group stage they would try and keep him but if they go out, or maybe even drop to the Europa League, they would let him go. £10m wouldn’t be out of the question though, and a steal at that price if he can do the business in the EPL which, as I said, I reckon he could do.
