With Victor Valdes’ admission that Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina is going to replace him at FC Barcelona, there is the inevitable rustling of names about who will possibly replace Reina at Liverpool.
It was earlier believed that Canadian born Bosnian international Asmir Begovic, who currently plies his trade for Stoke City, would be the man to take over between the sticks at Anfield, but according to reports by the Sunday People, Liverpool are instead lining up a £6.5million bid for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
The Belgian number 1 is in the shop window this season as he looks to move to a bigger club as he faces competition from Chelsea youngster Thibaut Courtois for his spot in the starting eleven of the national side. Mignolet was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal all of last month, but it appears that Liverpool have fired the first salvo as they continue their incredible effort of trying to do their business early this summer having learnt from their mistakes from last season.
Should Liverpool fail to land Mignolet, Real Madrid stopper Diego Lopez is being considered as an alternative.
