Premier League giants Manchester United are hoping to land Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard at the end of the season.
Lampard has been at a deadlock with the Chelsea board over a new contract. With conflicting reports emerging out of Stamford Bridge, it is looking increasingly likely that Lampard will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season with clubs all over the world eyeing the England International.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is one of Lampard’s many admirers, and the “free transfer” would pose no financial stress on the Glazers. Fergie is considering Lampard as a short term replacement for Paul Scholes, who is likely to hang up his boots this summer.
The careers of Darren Fletcher and Anderson have also been plagued by injuries and United will look to bolstering their midfield at the end of the season. Lampard will lend some much needed experience to United’s midfield, not to mention increase the goal scoring threat from the center of the park.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long time admirer of the Blues midfielder, right from his West Ham days. The Englishman is also being seen as a possible mentor for youngsters like Nick Powell and Tom Cleverley, making them more potent in front of goal.
