Manchester United are weighing up a bid for Southampton’s left back Luke Shaw should Everton decide not to let go of Leighton Baines. The Daily Express reported that the Premier League champions have enquired about Shaw’s availability and that the youngster heads the list of potential backups should they fail with their Baines bid.
Goodison Park trashed the joint £28m bid that Manchester United made for Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini and English full back Baines. And though Moyes looked like he had his heart set earlier on reuniting with the duo at Old Trafford, the Scot seems to have accepted the premise that he may not have Baines to play under him the next season.
However, Luke Shaw is another good English left back with an advantage of 10 years over Baines, giving him room to improve and develop more than the Everton defender. Although Shaw was heavily linked to Chelsea at the beginning of this transfer market, the 18 year old went on to sign a new 5 year deal with the Saints and immediately reposed the faith that the club had put in him with a stellar performance in Southampton’s 1-0 victory over West Brom. The current valuation of Shaw has pinned his price tag at an impressive £10 million, a much cheaper option compared to Baines.
