It appears that Manchester United are well on their way to welcoming England international Leighton Baines into their fold, as reserve left-back Alexander Buttner is on his way to Turkey according to reports in the Daily Express.
Buttner has been on the shopping list of Benfica and Besiktas all summer, and it now appears that the Turks have won the race to his signature with the club’s vice president Ahmet Nur Cebi confirming that a deal had been agreed with the English champions.
Cebi shared, “Buttner is our primary transfer target. We have agreed terms with the player, everything has been sorted. Manchester United have informed us that they would be prepared for Buttner to join us on a one-year loan.”
The decision to move could be a good one for the Dutch defender as he was unlikely to see much playing time at Old Trafford this season behind Patrice Evra and potentially Leighton Baines. Buttner is a full Dutch international and harbours hopes of breaking into the national team for the 2014 World Cup, and cannot afford to spend a season like the last one where he played just 5 Premier League games all year.
