As if the mind games before the derby weren’t enough, Sir Alex Ferguson is now looking to snap up two of Manchester City’s long term transfer targets Alen Halilovic and Sime Vrsaljko. Dinamo Zagreb has had a hot production line and both their academy stars have been tracked by numerous clubs in Europe including the Manchester giants who continue look to build for the future. Manchester City boss had already taken a look at Halilovic in the summer, but decided to let the player grow in his homeland, while Manchester United chief David Gill traveled to Zagreb to negotiate a deal for the teenage wonders.
Being likened to Luka Modric, Halilovic has shown a superb growth in the past season and half and has got the attention of Real Madrid as well. The Croatian club are however adamant on a £15m price tag for the jewel and that will put off numerous clubs considering his tender age of 16.
Manchester United’s midfield problems have continued with no apparent heir for Paul Scholes, and the purchase of Alen will seem to be a step in the same direction. Right back Vrsaljko hasn’t received the same amount of hype as his compatriot but his composure in defence along with his great pace means it’s only a matter of time before other clubs take notice. Dinamo hope to hold on to both their wonderkids, but the right bid will most definitely weaken their stance.
