Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly keen to sign a new keeper this transfer window despite his lack of options in midfield and crisis in defense. The man is known to be Bosnian Asmir Begovic and the Red Devils are ready to splash the cash to lure their target to the North West.
Last summer’s big money signing David De Gea has failed to convince so far in English football. His understudy Anders Lindegaard too has been inconsistent till now. Sir Alex is said to be fed up with his goalkeepers and English sources suggest that the Scotsman will want to secure the Stoke number one’s services, as he believes Begovic will make a difference to his team. Manchester United have conceded more goals than 17th placed Sunderland, a statistic Sir Alex will want to change as the season progresses.
Stoke manager Tony Pulis has ruled out any move for the 25-year-old goalkeeper and given his healthy relationship with Manchester United, any move would have to wait till the summer. The Bosnian too has played down talks of a move to Manchester claiming that he is happy at Stoke and focused on helping the club become successful. Begovic has conceded only 15 goals in 15 league matches and has kept seven clean sheets to his name this season. It comes as no surprise that the United boss has had his eyes on the Bosnian international.
No matter how deep interested Sir Alex is in Begovic, it looks as if this deal is not going to materialize, at least not till the summer transfer window. The Scot will by that time, truly know whether his two keepers have adjusted to the English game.
