Messi speaks cautiously about Tottenham and Man Utd superstars
Lionel Messi is not only an outstanding player but he is a very clever person and knows very well how to keep his high profile public image intact.
We all know, Barcelona players have a “shameless” tendency to speak about players of other clubs. The situation of Cesc Fabregas was well known where almost all the Barca Spanish players spoke about him in the media, when he was still an Arsenal player.
Likewise, Barca players played a major role in turning the head of Alex Song in the summer. However, you generally don’t see Messi involving into such kinds of silly PR acts.
Of course, he doesn’t want to taint his own reputation. However, when the targets are big and huge capture like Gareth Bale and Wayne Rooney, it needs the best player in the world to start the PR proceedings, albeit in a suave way.
This is where Messi is so intelligent. In a recent interview, he said this as quoted in the Sky Sports:
“Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale are both great players, they are doing so well for their clubs. And I always want to play with the best players.”
I have to be careful what I say because I can’t see them leaving their teams soon. But, of course, I want to play with the best players.”
That’s brilliant isn’t it? See. He won’t leave Barcelona to play for Spurs or even for Manchester United, so it’s obvious that Messi wants them to join the Catalan side. But what a way to express that wish! He didn’t say explicitly that he wants them to join but his message was day light clear beneath those statements.
