The Robin van Persie Transfer Chronicles has taken another dramatic turn today as the Daily Star claim that the Arsenal striker was spotted house hunting in the Manchester area. The Dutchman was set to join Arsenal’s pre-season tour next week if a concrete offer didn’t materialize by then. Manchester City are favourites to sign the player although Man United remain interested parties.
City are expected to offload a few of their high wage earners to make room for Van Persie, with Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez the obvious candidates. But manager Roberto Mancini has insisted that the duo were part of his plans as he was quoted by the Calcionews saying: “Dzeko and Tevez are in effect two football players of the City, and as far as I can tell who will remain here.”
French teenager M’biya Niang is a wanted man in England as the Daily Mail report that Tottenham have now followed Arsenal by offering the 17 year old striker a trial. But the Mirror claims that Manchester City could win the race for the Caen player as the Premier League Champions are prepared to make a direct offer.
The other soon to be out of contract Arsenal forward Theo Walcott may not be attracting as much press yet as Robin van Persie, but that is not preventing the press from speculating about his future. After having been linked with a move to Chelsea all summer, Liverpool are now reported to be joining the race to sign Theo if rumours in the Sun are to be believed, and are prepared to offer Arsenal £15 million for the young winger, whilst also matching his wage expectations of £100,000 per week.
