Cash-rich French club Paris Saint Germain are eyeing Chelsea centre-back John Terry after their failure to negotiate an acceptable price with AC Milan for primary defensive target Thiago Silva. Now, French daily Le Parisien has suggested that PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen on reuniting with the England international to help strengthen his team as they prepare for Champions League football. However, we believe that the 31 year old Chelsea Captain is unlikely to leave his home country for any amount of money after a season in which the team won a Champions League and FA Cup double.
Danijel Pranjic is edging closer to·a switch from Bayern Munich to Everton after he was released by the Bavarian giants. The 31 year old came very close to arriving at Goodison Park in January but a move collapsed at the last minute. And, now he might well be replacing Leighton Baines at left-back and he was excited about that prospect as he was quoted in the Mirror saying:· “I am honoured that such a successful coach wants to sign me, and would be honoured to play for a club like Everton with such a rich history.”
In related news, although the media is abuzz with reports linking Everton’s Leighton Baines to Manchester United, the left-back insists that he is unaware of any approaches by the Red Devils. Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly highly impressed with the defender and is planning a move for the £18 million-rated player. However, Everton boss David Moyes is said to be keen on holding on to his star this summer. Baines told the Daily Mail, “I’ve been aware of what’s been said in the press but I don’t know much beyond that.”
New West Brom manager Steve Clarke has voiced his desire to keep the attacking duo of Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie at the Hawthorns this summer. Both forwards have been linked to other clubs and Odemwingie even expressed his desire to play for a bigger club. The new boss has spoken of his admiration of the players and has stated that the two strikers are certainly part of his plans at the club next season. The 48 year-old told the Sunday Mirror, “If you have two goalscorers who can score goals it’s a big plus.”
George McCartney has made a return to Premier League entrants West Ham United, confirmed the club’s website. The defender, who was loaned to the Hammers last season, played an instrumental role in their promotion to the top tier and has now joined from Sunderland on a two-year deal. The 31 year-old said, “I am delighted to be coming back to West Ham and this time on a permanent basis.”
German club Borussia Monchengladbach are reportedly looking to hijack Newcastle target Luuk De Jong, reports the Daily Star. The Dutch striker is a wanted man by Alan Pardew, and had also been subject to a new £10 million bid from the Magpies after their initial £8 million bid was rejected. The Toons wish to bring in the 21 year old talent to prepare for life without the explosive Demba Ba (has a £7 million buyout clause). However, the player’s club, FC Twente is looking for much more, with their manager Steve McLaren stating, “Luuk de Jong would stay if it were up to me, unless stupid money is offered.”
Fulham have parted ways with striker Orlando Sa, who is now a free agent according to the club’s website. The 24 year-old joined the Premier League side from Porto on a free transfer last summer. However, the forward failed to make an impression at the club and managed just 7 appearances for the Cottagers, scoring a mere one goal. The Portuguese forward has separated from the club with mutual consent, said the report.
