Cristiano Ronaldo is the latest in the line of a number of Real Madrid stars to question the club’s sale of Mesut Ozil to Arsenal on transfer deadline day. The Gunners signed the German for a club record £42.5 million fee that has left the Arsenal fans still pinching themselves if it is all a dream. But the Los Blancos faithful are upset with the club hierarchy having sanctioned the sale of one of Madrid’s most loved players.
Ronaldo, a major beneficiary of Ozil’s enormous assists in the La Liga over the last 3 seasons, has expressed his disgust at the 24-year old’s exit from the Bernabeu. The Portuguese superstar said, “The sale of Ozil is very bad news for me. He was the player who best knew my moves in front of goal… I’m angry about Özil leaving.”
Ozil was the most high-profile casualty of Gareth Bale’s world-record £86 million move from Tottenham, and Arsene Wenger jumped at the chance to sign the German international in a move that will go a long way in appeasing the fans, who have been demanding quality players. Arsenal’s previous transfer record stood at £15 million when they signed Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St. Petersburg in 2009.
