RVP can keep United in touch but it is Rooney’s form which will decide the title.

Since his arrival in the summer from Arsenal, Robin Van Persie has adapted to life at Old Trafford without any problems.

The goal-scoring machine has already hit eight goals in his career at United, and there is no doubt that he will continue to add to that this season, if he stays away from any injuries.

Last season the striker scored thirty goals in the League and was the best striker on show. He got his former club out of trouble on so many occasions, which ultimately got Arsene Wengers side into the Champions League.

But so far this campaign he is proving to be just as important to United as he was to the Gunners. If it wasn’t for his goals, Sir Alex Fergusons side would not be in the position they are, and would not be anywhere near table-toppers Chelsea.

So are United pinning their title challenge on him?

I should hope not, but he seems to thrive in having so much responsibility on his shoulders.

However, they do have top-quality players all over the park and with Wayne Rooney as Van Persie’s strike partner; they do not need to single out the Dutchman as the man to bring back the title.

Rooney is also a world-class forward, and he is just starting to find his feet this campaign, so they now have two brilliant strikers to keep them in touch with the League leaders, and then maybe overtake them like they have done so many times in the past.

I believe that Van Persie’s goals will help United keep in touch for the title, but it will be Rooney’s form which will determine if they bring the League back to red side Manchester.
