Manchester United manager David Moyes has revived his interest in Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric, according to reports published in The Daily Star. The Scot looks set to lose out on Barcelona’s midfield sensation Thiago to Bayern Munich, and is busy exploring other options to strengthen the Red Devils’ midfield. The Manchester side has been after the Croatian star since his Tottenham days and it seems the club is poised to take advantage of his unsettled form at Santiago Bernabeu.
Meanwhile, the Daily Express believes that Thiago’s replacement is more likely to be Lazio midfielder Antonio Candreva. Moyes will need to fight off competition from rivals Manchester City and Tottenham, who are also reported to be interested in the services of the Italian international, who impressed playing for his country in the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Premier League Champions Manchester United have reached an agreement with Portuguese side Benfica over the services of their Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay. Reports in Tuttomercato suggest the Red Devils have agreed upon a final £17.2m deal for the 26 year old, after previous reports of the English side having had a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ in place for him. An official move can be expected in the coming week.
With Jose Mourinho one can never really tell whether his objective is to actually buy a player or to stir the pot, but ‘The Special One’ will never go down in history as a person who keeps his ideas to himself. However, the Chelsea boss did take advantage of his press conference in Asia yesterday to share, that Wayne Rooney is “a player I like very much”.
Manchester United’s forgotten striker Federico Macheda might have elicited serious interest from club back in his homeland. It was reported by The Daily Express that Serie A sides Parma and Fiorentina are keeping tabs on him and wish to land him at their respective dens. The 21 year old has looked unsettled at Old Trafford after being loaned out to clubs like Stuttgart, QPR and Sampdoria following only a handful of first team chances.
Manchester United’s slender hopes of prising away Juventus superstar Arturo Vidal from Juventus could well be up in smoke with TalkSPORTreporting that Real Madrid have lodged an ambitious £36 million bid for the Chilean midfielder. It remains to be seen if Juventus take the bait or reject all offers for their key man.
