Spanish hit man being chased by some of Europe’s elite including Arsenal
According to online reports, Athletic Bilbao star Fernando Llorente is a transfer target for Arsenal and Italian champions Juventus. The 6ft 5in striker refused to sign a new contract with Bilbao at the start of the 2012/13 season, fueling speculation that he may leave.
It is rumoured that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of the Spanish star and with Olivier Giroud not firing on all cylinders and Lukas Podolski seen as a left-sided midfielder a bid for the Spanish striker would help solve the problem they have of scoring goals and ease fans calls for a big name arrival.
However, there may be a stumbling block with Wengers pursuit of the forward as Turin based club Juventus are also rumoured to be monitoring his situation, and if Arsenal do not make an offer for the 27-year old then surely they will.
But Bilbao see Llorente as an integral part of their team and would be reluctant to sell him. But with the strikers current deal set to expire next summer and with him seemingly not willing to extend his contract, they may be forced to part with one of their star assets for a cut-priced fee.
Llorente has been at Bilbao since 2005, playing 240 league games and scoring 81 league goals.
