Spurs coach demanding too much, too soon

In another disappointing night in the Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur have to pick themselves up and get ready to face a tough test against Southampton on Sunday.

But can Coach Andre Villas-Boas continue to play most of his starting eleven in two tough and demanding competitions?

Against Minnows Maribor in the Europa League, he started with seven of his first team regulars and the only reason he didn’t play more is because of injuries and personal issues.

AVB cannot continue to play such a strong squad every weekend and Thursday night, because if he does? Then his players will be burnt out due to playing so many games.

The Premier League is the toughest competition in the world, every game is hard and playing in Europe is just the same, every team you play against is going to make it tough for your stars, especially since you have just flown thousands of miles to get there. The Spurs team cannot keep it up every week.

AVB is taking the European competition very seriously, which is admirable as most managers just dis-regard it these days, but when you’re playing against teams who are not at your standard, then you should rotate the squad, give the fringe players more of a chance.

The season is long and arduous; there are more than two competitions. You can’t continue to play most of your starting eleven in all of them because they will have nothing to give come the end of the season.

He needs to prioritise and I believe he is asking too much of his players at the moment so if it continues then his star men will have nothing more to give.

  • That’s just why Levy should of bought Llorente and mouthino.

AVB may be taking the competition seriously but the players aren’t.
As for burn out, rubbish. I used to play football on a Saturday morning and Sunday morning. I played rugby Sunday afternoons and again every Wednesday evening also. All for different teams and I never ever had burn out. I also worked full time around 50+hrs a week and I guarantee you I played and worked every day to the top of my ability and I still would if able to now at 31. But I am now disabled. These footballers need to stop moaning and get on with actually earning the sort of money we all dream of. I’m disgusted more and more by these idiots.
