Sun 24th June – Arsenal transfer rumours, strikers dominating the gossip columns

If reports in the Sun are to be believed, French striker Olivier Giroud has struck a five year contract with Arsenal after the Gunners agreed a £12 million (close to buyout clause) move with Montpellier. The formalities (medical and signing) are set to be complete in a couple of days. ·The 25 year old had helped the French minnows Montpellier to a surprise league title with his 21 goals and would be a great addition to Arsenal because of his ability to play with his back to the goal.

Arsenal are reportedly looking at dishing out £14.5 million for Atletico Madrid forward Adrian Lopez to complete their summer striker shopping. Spanish daily AS speculates that after the signing of Podolski and the near-complete transfer of Olivier Giroud, the Spaniard could complete a three man attacking unit, thereby making Van Persie just another option for Wenger. It is reported that the Gunners have tabled a £10 million bid, but the Europa League champions value the player higher and will not be forced into a raw deal.

Arsenal reject, Nicklas Bendtner, could be headed to the shores of Spain according to the Express, who claim that Malaga are the favourites to land the striker. The club, owned by the Qatari family, have Champions League football to look forward to next season, which might have tempted Bendtner to reject a move to Sunderland instead. £4m is what the La lIga club will have to cough up for the Danish International who had an impressive Euro 2012 campaign.
