Many top managers have discarded the Capital One Cup because they believe that it is not worth winning, that other cups like the F.A Cup or the Champions League are more important, it is not as glamorous or exciting as the other competitions. But I haven’t seen a week of cup football which was so exciting and entertaining to watch.
This week’s Capital one Cup games had everything you could ever want to see. It had goals, great football, bad defending, last minute winners, some extra-time excitement, last-minute penalty misses and some shocks.
I cannot remember a couple of nights like it.
And the two stand out ties of the round? It has to be Arsenal vs. Reading and Chelsea vs. Man United.
The Arsenal vs. Reading game was a top class game and I applaud the gunners for coming back from 4-0 down to win the game 7-5. It was truly one of the best games I have ever seen and it showed that the Gunners have some hunger and desire to win the Cup, regardless if Arsene Wenger doesn’t.
The game between Chelsea and Manchester United was shrouded by the Clattenburg saga at the weekend but the two teams just got on with it and played the game which turned out to be just as exciting as the match the night before, and who would of thought it would finish 5-4 against two of the biggest clubs in the country?
There were so many great games in the Capital one cup this week and I hope it continues in the next round.
It deserves more respect than it has got over the previous seasons from all the top clubs, and I believe that any bit of silverware is something worth winning.
