Thurs 28th June – Arsenal transfer rumours, one player set to leave and two not interested in joining the Gunners

Setanta Sports reports that Arsenal’s talismanic frontman Robin van Persie may soon leave the club and join Manchester City. With only twelve months left on van Persie’s contract, Arsene Wenger is trying very hard to keep the Dutch star. However, contract talks between Van Persie and Wenger at the end of the season did not pan out well, and a big offer could coax Wenger to sell his top scorer in order to get back some cash, instead of letting the player go for free next summer. Juventus are also potential suitors, but it seems van Persie wants to stay in England, making the Citizens favourites to seal his signatures.

However, according to reports in The Sun, new signing Olivier Giroud has declared that he has joined Arsenal to play alongside van Persie, and not as his replacement. Arsenal fans will feel slightly reassured, but nothing would make them happier than the Dutchman putting pen to paper.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target, Ibrahim Afellay could be offered an escape route from his hellish time in Barcelona by Ligue 1 side Lille as the Spanish media report a possible €7m bid from the French side for the injury-prone winger.··Despite the interest in the Dutchman, he was unlikely to walk into the starting eleven at either Arsenal or Spurs, thus making Lille an attractive option.

Rumoured Arsenal target Adrian Lopez will in all likelihood not be leaving Atletico Madrid for North London with the 24-year striker declaring his desire to continue at the club in an interview with Marca,·”I am very happy. In my first year we have a title, something that you would expect, and I felt very comfortable with the people in the club. The support of the fans is amazing. I have three years and my idea is to follow.”
