The bad news that no Arsenal fan wanted to hear has finally arrived with Robin van Persie declaring that he will not sign an extension to his contract with the club due to differences in ambition between himself (who wants to win trophies) and the Arsenal hierarchy (who one hopes wants the same thing). The Dutch striker, however, has not declared whether he will be leaving for sure this summer, or will the club attempt to run the risk of seeing out his contract and let him leave for free next season if the Gunners don’t win anything. Chances are though RVP’s agents have lined a move for him already, and a conclusion to the summer’s most riveting transfer saga could be nigh. The Mirror believes a move to Manchester City is the most likely outcome, while the Daily Mail throws their weight behind Manchester United.
Barcelona have stepped up their chase for Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, after their primary target Thiago Silva signed a new deal with Milan. The Spanish giants are now planning to make a move for the Belgian this summer, claimed Catalan newspaper Sport. Although Arsenal are keen on holding on to their star player, they are expecting a bid from the La Liga champions soon.
Arsenal reject Nicklas Bendtner is being tracked by Galatasaray and Malaga, reported the Daily Mail. The Denmark international’s agent had confirmed that the player would leave the Emirates this summer and had also said that the player is drawing considerable interest after scoring a brace against Portugal at the Euros. Earlier, the 24 year-old’s agent told blod.dk, “The interest is overwhelming, just as it should be after the way Nicklas performed at Euro 2012.”
Arsenal have a tough task on their hands to retain Pedro Botelho as several Spanish clubs have lined up for the Brazilian this summer, reported TalkSPORT. The 22 year-old, who joined the Gunners in 2007, is yet to make an appearance for the North Londoners due to pending work permit issues. Having played on loan at several Spanish sides over the years, the left-back is being chased by Levante, whom he joined on loan last season, along with Deportivo la Coruna, Hercules and a host of Brazilian clubs.
