Lille winger Eden Hazard has become one of the most wanted players in football at the moment. His performances have attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and even Real Madrid. However, Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham have recently emerged as serious contenders for the player’s signature.
Just a few days back, the 21-year old hinted that he might be interested in a move to White Hart Lane and was quoted by RTBF as saying, “Maybe it will be Tottenham. This is a big English club, I said I will go to England and there are very good players [at the club]. •I have not signed anything yet. It will happen soon, Spain is perhaps more my style of play but it must be either Barcelona or Real Madrid. It is therefore limited. I’m leaning towards England. It’s a style of play that suits me and it’s there that you can learn the most.”
To add more fuel to fire, Hazard’s father has now come out and stated that Tottenham remain one of the contender’s for his son’s signature. Hazard Senior was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying, “For now I can only say what Eden said on Monday on TV: Yes, there is interest from Spurs, and no, there’s no offer. The priority for Eden is one thing: games. Opportunities. It might be better to join a club just below the biggest.”
If one goes by his words, then Spurs will fit the bill perfectly. What could also sway the decision in favour of the London based outfit is the fact that they look set to book a Champions League berth for next season and are very likely to be involved in the title race as well.
Hazard has had a fine season with Lille so far and has scored 11 goals and created another 7 in 33 appearances. In fact in his five seasons so far, the Belgian has scored 39 goals and bagged 29 assists in 176 appearances. Despite his young age, Hazard has cemented a place in the Belgian national side as well and has already made 25 appearances for them during the course of which he has scored 1 goal and created another 7.
Should Tottenham manage to land Hazard, then it will be a major statement of intent from them and will give them another very potent option upfront. The fans must certainly be smacking their lips now at the idea of seeing Gareth Bale and Hazard work their magic on opposite wings in the next season.
