Tottenham looking to out bid Liverpool in race to sign exciting Brazilian
Both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool kicked off their Premier League campaigns with narrow 1-0 wins. They were missing their talismans in Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez respectively, as their futures continue to be up in the air. In the midst of all this uncertainty, both clubs are looking to get in new players. Tottenham have been interested in the likes Fabio Coentrao and Christian Eriksen, while Liverpool have looked at Leandro Damaio and Anzhi star Willian.
Willian is one of many stars in Anzhi Makhachkala who are part of a fire sale. The Brazilian has indicated a desire to move to the EPL, and Liverpool are assumed to have agreed personal terms with the player. However, the Daily Mirror reports that Tottenham have now entered the race and could usurp the Reds due to the fact that they have European football to offer. Willian wants to feature in the Brazil national team for next year’s World Cup, so he will want all the exposure he can get. Liverpool have not yet agreed a fee with Anzhi, and Spurs could move in to procure the exciting talent by bettering Liverpool’s offer of 26 million pounds, with the Russian club hoping to recover as much of their 35 million investment as possible.
Andre Villas-Boas has been a long-term fan of Willian, chasing him ever since he was the manager of Chelsea. While Spurs won against Crystal Palace in the weekend, there was a suggestion that their squad lacked a bit of spark and cutting edge despite having oodles of solidarity. Willian would be able to provide Spurs the required flair.
